Comparing Winterbourne and Prufrock :: Daisy Miller, Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à When creating his famous poem, "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock", T.S. Eliot was inspired by a character depicted in the novella known as Daisy Miller, written by Henry James. This character, Winterbourne, was intertwined and considered when creating the timid character of Prufrock. It is evident that both men share similar personalities and characteristics that link them together, both being prime examples of emptiness and despair told through theses writings. à à à à à The central concern in Daisy Miller is of the "analogies and differences" between people. In this story, a young American man, Winterbourne, is confused and intrigued by the behavior of a young American woman, Daisy Miller. Winterbourne had wondered about all of the cold shoulders that had been turned towards her, and sometimes it annoyed him to suspect that she did not feel at all. He said to himself that she was too light and childish, too uncultivated and unreasoning. Then at other moments he believed that she carried about in her an elegant and perfectly observant consciousness from the impression she produced. He asked himself whether Daisy's defiance came from the consciousness of innocence or from her being, essentially, a young person of the "common" class. After getting to know Daisy, he was confused about getting to know his and her emotions. It is far evident that Winterbourne does not come to conclusions about people easily. He was very much influenced by the biases of his upbringing in culture, and he questioned them occasionally. à à à à à "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" is about a timid and downcast man in search of meaning, of love, and in search of something to break from the dullness and superficiality which he feels his life to be. Eliot lets us into Prufrock's world for an evening, and traces his progression of emotion from timidity, and, ultimately, to despair of life. He searches for meaning and acceptance by the love of a woman, but falls miserably because of his lack of self-assurance. Prufrock is a man for whom, it seems, everything goes wrong, and for whom there are no happy allowances. The emptiness and shallowness of Prufrock's "universe" and of Prufrock himself are evident from the very beginning of the poem. He cannot find it in himself to tell the woman what he really feels, and when he tries to tell her, it comes out in a mess. At the end of the poem, he realizes that he has no big role in life.

Two Views of a Crime
Whether or not fault Is Justifiable Is concluded by opposing sides of a situation, with the conclusions consistently differing on multiple accounts. In William Shakespearean Hamlet two men, both alike in livelihood, though divergent in dignity, give speeches of persuasion regarding the same situation.Claudia, through means of vain diction and a tone of false self-contempt, demonstrates his justifiability of the fault committed unto Hamlet, who exposes Claudia as an ââ¬Å"adulterate beastâ⬠with word choice of animosity and speaks with an attitude of nothing shy of a desire for titillation to annihilate any permissible defense of Classis's doing. The entire situation, coated with a thick layer of irony, entails a sinful man asking for redemption as well as a sinful man begging for justice. In the beginning of both speeches, the men identify Claudia as the initiator of the entirety of the situation.Hamlet, speaking to his son, distinguishes an ââ¬Å"incestuousâ⬠and a â⬠Å"traitorousâ⬠character. Although it has yet to be made clear that this character of ââ¬Å"wicked witâ⬠Is Claudia, It Is discernible that whatever character he speaks of Is Hough of as vile and disloyal to Hamlet. When Hamlet mentions his ââ¬Å"seeming virtuous queen,â⬠it is inevitable to recognize the ââ¬Å"wretchâ⬠who holds the blame for his loss is none other than Claudia. While Hamlet illustrates the initiator as ââ¬Å"lewdâ⬠and ââ¬Å"garbage,â⬠Claudia thinks of himself as one of ââ¬Å"strong intentâ⬠and connects himself to Cain, the man known as the first murderer. This allusion instantly identifies Claudia as Hamlet's murderer understanding that Cain killed his brother for supposedly being God's favorite. In the case between Hamlet and Claudia, Hamlet Is inning while partaking in the Joys of Queen Gertrude. Hamlet has the ââ¬Å"favoredâ⬠and Claudia eliminates him from the picture for that reason. Both passages continue, Jou rneying along alternate paths. While Hamlet describes the scene of Classis's fault, Claudia demonstrates narcissism. The ââ¬Å"vile and loathsomeâ⬠death Hamlet suffered proves as nothing of importance to Claudia who approaches the situation with the conclusion that his ââ¬Å"fault Is past. The dreadful scene Illustrated through Hamlets ââ¬Å"cursedâ⬠memory serves as sensible reason for his IEEE that Claudia should have revenge sought about him, forced to pay for Hamlet's condemnation to Purgatory and compelled to pay for his disloyalty. Claudia, however, expresses few signs of guilt. He attempts to grieve, asking the heavens to cleanse his fault ââ¬Å"white as snow. â⬠Nevertheless, he understands that he may never beg ââ¬Å"Forgive me my foul murderâ⬠while remaining In possession of ââ¬Å"(his) crown, (his) own ambition, and (his) queen. With this conclusion presented, It Is evident through ââ¬Å"his true natureâ⬠that there exists no ââ¬Å"Incli nationâ⬠to rid himself of his ââ¬Å"wicked rice(s). â⬠The irony of the situation is presented in that Claudia, in search of redemption, finds redemption just beyond the life he now enjoys, but instead resolves to keep in winnings. While in Hamlet's speech, however, revenge is sought upon Claudia. If success is fulfilled on Hamlet's part, Claudia will not only be rid of his new possessions but also of his insignificant chance of forgiveness. Hamlet's speech concludes as his life has- ââ¬Å"dispatched. Hamlet sends his son with resolves to ââ¬Å"try what repentance can,â⬠though he comprehends that little may come of it. In this comprehension, he explains that as his ââ¬Å"words fly up, (his) thoughts remain below,â⬠symbolizing the falsity of his guilt and his fake desire for redemption. From the standpoint of irony, Just as Hamlet possessed the inability to beg for forgiveness, Claudia will not experience redemption. He will meet the heavens ââ¬Å"with all (his) imperfections on (his) headâ⬠Just as Hamlet was forced to experience due to Classis's hand. The Justifiability of Classis's fault lies in two opposing pairs of hands. While Hamlet, through diction of identifiable loathing, believes his brother deserves enmeshment for his doing, a sensible conclusion, Claudia concerns himself with his current well-being. Through language of self-love, Claudia displays fake guilt and knowingly fails to receive forgiveness. As Claudia leaves his need for salvation to the heavens, Hamlet leaves his burning desire for revenge to his son. The Justifiability of fault will continue to remain unknown due to inconvenience that only those associated with the situation may provide the conclusion, and unfortunately those in association will consistently be in opposition.

Reason My Grandparents Immigrate to Malaysia
Topic: The reasons my grandparents immigrated to Malaysia Nowadays, there are millions of Chinese living overseas. For me, I am the third generation of overseas Chinese in Malaysia. My grandparents came from a small village in Chaozhou Prefecture of Guangdong Province, China. They immigrated to Malaysia after World War II for several political, economic and societal reasons. In 1930ââ¬â¢s, China was in a state of disorder due to the incessant fighting between warlords. People lived in deep distress. Unfortunately, the war of resistance against Japan broke out in 1937.The Japanese Imperial Army suddenly occupied a large area of China. My grandparentsââ¬â¢ hometown was not invaded by the Japanese Army since it was only a small village. However, it faced scarcity of food. Many residents died of starvation, including my great-grandmother. My grandparents followed other villagers and fled to Fujian province. After that, they had been working in a rich family to earn a living for the following 8 years. Finally, in 1945, Japan surrendered. For U. S. A, Britain, Russia and for Japan itself, it symbolized the arrival of peace.Yet, for China, it just marked the resumption of the civil war between Nationalist Party and Chinese Communist Party. Both of the two parties wanted to control China. Nobody knew when another war would break out. The potential war would undoubtedly plunge Chinese people into misery and suffering again. Besides, people only saw a scene of devastation everywhere in China. The economic environment was worse than before. My grandparents found it harder to live in China after the war than before it.Millions of Chinese from Fujian and Guangdong province fled to South-east Asia, the so-called ââ¬Å"Nanyangâ⬠, to seek a better life. Many of them chose Malaya (the predecessor of Malaysia) to start their new life. In Malaya, the political environment was much stable then. Before the war, the peninsula was occupied by Britain. The British colonist spared no effort in maintaining the stability of Malaya as they didnââ¬â¢t want any instability to interrupt their plundering of wealth in the colony. My grandparents thought that they could get an easy life in Malaya. They would at least not be destitute and homeless there. Since 19th century, thousands of Chinese flowed to Malaya because of the opportunities for employment in the mining, plantations and businesses. The peninsula has an abundance of natural resources. British colonists were rapidly developing the tin mining industry, rubber, and palm oil farming on the land. There was a high demand of manpower in the peninsula. Consequently, British colonist had been importing a large number of Chinese laborers into Malaya.Apart from that, the success stories of Chinese businessmen like Tan Tock Seng, Tan Kah Kee and Lee Kong Chian kept inspiring my grandfather and other Chinese. Therefore, they didnââ¬â¢t mind travelling thousands of miles to Nanyang. They believed that it w as a land where they could survive and become rich. According to the World Population Yearsââ¬â¢ report, there were about 1. 8 million Chinese living in Peninsular Malaya in 1947. Overseas Chinese had already formed a big community in Malaya. People who came from same the province and spoke the same dialect lived and worked together. Therefore, it was not a problem for my grandparents to adapt themselves in this new community. All these factors caused my grandparents to make this tough decision. Itââ¬â¢s really hard for them to leave their homeland and become a citizen of another country. However, they might have been killed in another war if they had stayed in China. The day-to-day struggle of survival overrode all other things such as the unwillingness to leave the place where they had grown up. They were forced to immigrate. Legal Briefing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Legal Briefing - Essay Example The Court decided that Neve was not an employee of the newspaper and that she was an independent contractor. Consequently, the decision of the Commissioner of Economic Security was reversed. The gist of the matter is that being termed an employee or not is determined by the extent of control which the person getting the job done has over the person doing that job. In this case the Commissioner of Economic Security decided that the control exercised by the Austin Daily Herald was sufficient to make Neve an employee. However, the Appellate Court decided that the control exercised was insufficient and hence reversed this decision. All the same one of the judges dissented with a part of this ruling as he disagreed with that aspect of the judgment which, dealt with the de novo renewal of application of law because in these type of cases the master servant relationship is the main criterion which was drawn out from the inferences for the reason that there were no contested facts. This view is also clearly expressed in the case Darvell V. Paul A. Laurence Co (1953) and Santiago V. Phoenix Newspapers, Inc (1990).

Phonemic Inventories Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1
Phonemic Inventories - Assignment Example The thesis below will discuss the smallest elements of spoken language. One element discussed on this topic is phones versus letters. It is said that human language speech is not only built through face-to-face conversations but also through expressions made through the phones. For instance, if the listener says the word ââ¬Å"puppy!â⬠one will get the meaning through interpretation of messages ( Fountain and Bishoffs 5 ). The meaning of this language is that the person is astonished and even if the visual channels are entirely blocked, the person on the other end will get the message thus the sounds of language are sufficient to allow us to express the meaning. In the word puppy as used in the example, the first word used just a little air is used, very quiet and does not take a longer time. The second sound ââ¬Å"uhâ⬠. The third sound is the same as the first one and the final sound is to the vowel ââ¬Å"beâ⬠. Single speech sounds are referred by linguistics as phones. These words are separated through a method referred to as orthographic representation, which is specifically designed to write phone of speech occurring to humans naturally (Bartels 221). From the word puppy, the first word appears as pApi in the IPA. Comparing the two the first letters ââ¬Å" Pâ⬠in the sequences are the same. From the standard English, the letter P usually stand for the sound, but not usually stand for that sound for instance, from the word phrase, the P is silent hence no sound is made during it pronunciation ( Kenneth 79). In the IPA, the letter P always stands for the sound. The second sound in the orthography ââ¬Å" Aâ⬠in the IPA is represented by the symbol A meaning that the sounds are different. There is no sound in the symbol A, so it is not meaningful ( Kunter 224 ). In the sequence, there is an appearance of the letter ââ¬Å"pâ⬠again. The two identical letters sound different from a single letter, and an individual ought to know the
